Pendulums

Pendulums can be very quickly overlooked - are they moving their hand? Is it the wind? Will this mean I am in contact with the dead? How can I protect myself? The answer to all of these is yes!... and no! You see the pendulum will work with you and for what you want. If you start swinging your hand around yes it is going to move but you won't get accurate answers. Most of the time they work with our inner selves and spirit guides. It is very possible to contact spirits through a pendulum but only IF you allow it. Now if you start messing around asking you're dead grandma to come through don't be surprised if things start going amiss in your house or surroundings - just like a ouija board you don't always know what is going to come through so I would proceed with caution! Unlike the ouija board the pendulum can not spell things out quickly. Most people say that they are only good for yes or no answers but they can do so much more! With use of a pendulum board they can swing in multiple directions for answers and when you are more comfortable with the pendulum you may be able to ask them for the different answers and they will already be attuned.

Choosing the right pendulum for you

If you want to pick a pendulum made of crystal - and I highly advise you do! Try not to go for the shiniest prettiest thing available. Take your time and have a look at them all - does one of them call to you? Then pick it up see how it feels. Don't worry the person selling the pendulums will know exactly what your doing. When the right one comes up you will just know. Does the crystal vibrate in your hand? Then the ultimate question ... will it swing for you?

Pendulum boards

Pendulum boards can be anything from an elaborate slice of tree trunk hand crafted and sealed in gold down to a scrap of paper with a few pieces drawn on it. It really is a personal choice - if you're also still dabbling a piece of paper is a great way to see if this form of divination is right for you! You also do not need a pendulum board to use a pendulum it is just another area of expansion to add onto the craft.

Protecting Yourself

The pendulum will only contact the spirits IF you want it to. However if you still feel uneasy you can always start of the session by saying something along the lines of "I am calling upon my higher self / and / or spirit guides" If you have thought this through and still want to contact spirits I would suggest first smudging the space that you are working in. Think incense, palo-santo or rosemary. Sage will have them running for the hills! Now visualize a white or a pale blue light surrounding your body. This is your protective shield or bubble. This will remain with visualization for the entire reading. You can ask the pendulum to spell things out for you - for this you will need a pen and paper and go through the alphabet. When it hits the right letter it will swing for yes. This can be quite long and tiring for you so imagine how poor old tired grandma will feel spelling everything out! You can also stick to the answers that require a simple swing. That I'm sure granny will also thank you for! Then to close the session remember to say goodbye, let them know they are not welcome to stay politely and close the session down. Then smudge again - sage is recommended at this stage with windows open. Now you can release your protective shield.

TIP - place your elbow on a surface, a side, your leg as long as its still this will help stop your arm from moving and let your guides and inner self take over TIP - Don't so a session angry, your messages may be mixed, closed down or not what you want to hear at that time TIP - Try meditating for a few moments before you start! Its amazing what a clear mind can do for you're readings
