See a penny pick it up…

All day long you'll have good luck,
Pass a penny to a friend - then your luck will never end!

Although there may be more to this than meets the eyes. If the coin is heads up it's lucky to pick up and if the coin is tails up it's meant to be bad luck to pick it up! ... Although I just go with the "all day long I'll have good luck" theme of things!
No umberella's inside!
So where does this one come from and why? As a person who's dressed a house how I would like it, the very idea of anybody opening an umberella in my home and swishing it around provokes a sense of unease! So I come to think is this because of how we wish to have our houses kept?

Well it's actually meant to invite ghosts into your home and bring with it sleepless nights! Who'd a thunk it! However I belive this one is mainly house proud people clutching at pots while a toddler runs awol!
You better knock, knock, knock on wood!
Or should we? Or "touch wood" as the British sometimes say! This is of course to keep bad things away. The term as when something is going well we don't want to jinx it and it all to go badly so we "touch wood"

So ... why?
Well it's actually pagan! It's said to belive that spirits who are or could be malicious could inhabit wood. The spirits are believed to want us to not do well and so we touch the wood preventing them from stifling our dreams!
Cross your fingers!!! In fact cross everything!
The term cross your fingers is said to assure good luck to someone upon a task, test, day or event that hasen't yet happened

This one's back story is a little unclear - although it is said to link to Christ and the cross! To either signal to other Christians back in the day you were Christian (it also looks like a fish sign which is linked to Jesus) or used to provoke the power of God to ward of negative or evil spirits! Although it's also been recorded earlier than that, to again ward of evil spirits but before "God" was first recorded on the scene (or at least the Christian god) - perhaps it was for the old gods! Who knows! Either way I think this is pretty cool and if the intentions are set and there then hazah evil spirt-o's be gone!
After all of this what am I even typing away at?
Belief!
Belief is a power thing. It inspires hope, happiness, the feeling of protection, a looking fowards and ultimatly ... peace!
So what's this got to do with pagans?
When was the last time you believed in yourself? In your power? In the earth, air and spirits around you and re connected?
Intentions are 90% of the work - belief is the other 10%
Life is yours witches!
I love you! I appreciate every single one of you reading this and I'm greatful
And I belive I would love to hear your thoughts below!
Blessed be!
It's interesting where some of these sayings and proverbs come from. Your penny phrase reminded me of wishing wells and tossing pennies into them.
Belief is a very powerful and I wonder if it's belief which fuels intent. 90% belief, 10% intent. If intent translates to action. It's the belief behind the action which determines whether things progress or not. For example, if I believe I'm a magical being then my magic flows through me into the actions I take. But of course I'm always full of self doubt ha, ha. Nothings straight forward is it.
I believe your post is a thought provoker. 😉
I had heard the whole "if it's facedown it's bad luck" but honestly any money found I consider good luck lol
