Sigils

Sigils are one of the oldest and one of the most powerful forms of protection and magick. Used as a seal or pictorial image a witch will set with his or her own intentions. The term sigil came from the Latin word sigillum, meaning "seal" That used to represent angles and devils within occult worship.

Pictured here are Goetic seals from the Lesser Key of Solomon. As sigil magick goes so far back it has been known by many names in many different cultures Sigils in some cultures and especially historically were known as being pictorial signatures of entities or jinn. Now more referred to as part of chaos magick. Either way though history it has been highly associated with both angelic and demonic beings.

So what actually IS a sigil? And how can we use it? Sigils are created on the belief that we are the creators and attract of our own destiny. Today witches all around the world use sigils to help manifest what they desire! There are two main types of sigil making - but I will get to that later. They can work from the mundane "I would like to find some money" and "I would like to be happier" to "banish X person forever" Although in a bit more of a condensed form. It is in essence the art of taking your desires, dreams, goals or needs and placing them into a pictorial form with deeper intentions. After making a sigil it will need charging! Some witches will place the sigil under a candle and preform candle magick onto it. Others will place it within the moonlight and let the moons rays charge with the intentions needed. . . But what happens when the sigil is more than a piece of paper? What if its carved into your door frame for protection or on a large plate, box or tray? How do we charge them, then? Simply put my favorite method is moon water - a few dabs of that and clear intentions out loud and that bad boy is ready to roll! If the item is water soluble such as Selenite or a soft wood then visualization works great too! These methods can also be used for small paper sigils and alike! Most of the time visualization is the way I go with paper and it has yet to fail me!

This is one of the sigils I have created - It stands for self love and success! I have then set the intentions of "I do love myself and I am successful!" After I put this in my phone case - then it is - for the most part, always by my side! This is a free-form/ or/ free flowing sigil - Where I took the words or things I wanted and set them down in a small drawing. The E as the first letter of my name, the arrow to show moving on up and success, then the three dots top and bottom that represent love, light and harmony. One at the bottom and one at the top - symbolizing no matter how down I am I will love myself and not berate myself. Then at the top to set in harmony when I do not wish to be big headed - creating a balance. Feel free to use this design if you wish. If you want to go for a more structured sigil you can. You will need to make a grid of 9 squares. Picture tik-tak-toe if you will! Then write down all of the alphabet and cross out all of the vowels! Then write down 1-9 and without using the vowels place the alphabet down (I will include a picture). Now say your main desire is for example I want to be happy - you would write it down and cross out all the vowels. Then place their numerical number underneath the letters. After cross out any recurring numbers in a row - such as two 3's together. This will then equal your number you start with on the grid. The sigil will start with a circle and end with a line. You can keep it simple or go back in and curve the lines if wanted for visual effect as you desire!

I have used the phrase "I want to be happy" As an example in this photo of structured sigils - however to manifest you must believe it is already happening so you would use the phase in example "I am happy" The phase I used was just because it was longer to show effect of how the letters and numbers work.

Feel free to play around with sigils to get to know what you are comfortable with as they wont work unless charged! The sky is the limit! Sigils on candles carved in for protection, love, luck, lust, banishing . . . you name it! These can also be on papers like mine inside your phone case or in a bag or partition. A wonderful lady on my Instagram put them under her children's wallpaper for protection while decorating! I thought this idea was genius!
